Data for Indigenous Justice
This Alaska Native-led non-profit equips Indigenous peoples in Alaska with the skills and data necessary to be self-determined by taking action on missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2 spirit peoples (MMIWG2S).
DIJ released the first Alaska-specific MMIWG2S report in 2021, with 229 cases. Since then, DIJ has documented over 1,000 cases of MMIWG2S in Alaska.
DIJ has four interconnected strategies: Reclamation and Stewardship of Data, Data Systems Advocacy, Community Building, and Capacity Building. Each of these strategies is intended to ensure that Alaska Native communities can shape the policies, practices, and institutions that impact their everyday lives.
